Campaign for Liberty's Norm Singleton on Obamacare, Auditing the Fed, and the Libertarian Moment

"A lot of politicians will vote libertarian if that is how they think they remain politicians," says Norm Singleton, Vice President for Policy at Campaign for Liberty.

A nonprofit political group founded by former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), Campaign for Liberty's mission is to promote and defend "individual liberty, constitutional government, sound money, free markets, and a non-interventionist foreign policy." On Thursday Campaign for Liberty kicks off their annual Liberty Political Action Conference, featuring Rep. Paul, Sen. Rand Paul, Rep. Justin Amash, Rep. Thomas Massie, and grassroots activists from around the country.

Singleton believes that libertarianism is on the upswing and that if we are not yet living in a libertarian moment, we are on the cusp. "Clearly," he says, "with the collapse of mainstream conservative ideologies support among young people and the continuing disillusionment that he Obama youth of 2008 and even 1012 are having, libertarianism is the only political philosophy that seems to have any type of appeal among young people."

Singleton sat down with Reason's Nick Gillespie to discuss Campaign for Liberty, their push to audit the Federal Reserve, Washington's broken budget process, combatting Obamacare, and why it's important to pressure our representatives.

"I hate to break it to you Nick, but sometimes people in office of both parties just vote because they think that is the popular way to vote."
