Romney Edges Perry in New Reason-Rupe Poll;

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney holds a 20 percent to 18 percent edge over Texas Gov. Rick Perry among Republicans and Republican-leaning voters in the latest Reason-Rupe Public Opinion Survey of 1,200 U.S. adults conducted August 9-18, 2011.

Reason Foundation's polling director, Emily Ekins, explains what she found after looking through the data.

Two undeclared candidates, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, came next, followed by Reps. Michelle Bachmann (Minn.) and Ron Paul (Texas).

Congress pulled just a 14 percent approval rating and 47 percent liked the way President Obama is handling his office. Twenty-five percent of voters say they "definitely" won't vote for him in 2012 while 48 percent say they would consider voting for a candidate who is conservative on economic issues and liberal on social issues.
